The procedure is carried out as a day-case procedure without anaesthesia; for more sensitive patients, EMLA anaesthetic creams may be used. A special head with gold-plated microneedles allows penetration into skin tissue with a specified bipolar radiofrequency energy with setting for the desired penetration depth where the collagen fibres are heated up without damaging the dermis. The treated area shows a fine reddening after the procedure, which disappears within approximately 2 hours.
